Join us in Nashville on January 31 for an exclusive continuing education seminar featuring Dr. Michael Kase, a renowned Maxillofacial Prosthodontist. Dr. Kase will share photos, videos, and stories behind some of his most challenging and unique cases relating to his expertise in Maxillofacial Prosthetics and Dental Oncology. Dr. Kase provides valuable insights into advanced treatment for patients who exhibit extreme head and neck trauma resulting from severe vehicular accidents, gunshot wounds, congenital conditions, and oncological treatment. His presentation features many before and after photos of facial reconstruction cases, as well as exclusive videos from inside the operating room where highly skilled surgeons partially resect a patient’s fibula to be used for dental implants.

Maxillofacial Prosthetics
Overview: A deep dive into the subspecialty of maxillofacial prosthetics, covering a wide range of prosthetic treatments for patients with severe head and neck trauma and congenital defects.
Objectives:
- Grow your interdisciplinary capabilities by expanding your knowledge of maxillofacial prosthetics
- Explore and diversity your understanding of unique prosthetic solutions

- Discuss the intricacies of prosthetic designs that balance form and function in reconstructive outcomes, including speech, swallowing, facial expression, and aesthetics
Some of the prosthetic solutions featured in the presentation include:
- Palatal obturators to restore every day function following a full or partial palatectomy
- Mandibular prosthetics that emulate a functioning mandible where previously resected
- "Jaw in a Day" procedures using fibula free flap technique or other bone transplant options
- Facial prosthetics including auricle, optical, and oral
- Speech and swallowing prosthetics following partial or total glossectomy
- Unique intra and extraoral implants for prosthetic rehabilitation
- Utilization of surgical guides for intraoral and extraoral implant placement
Dental Oncology
Overview: Understanding osteoradionecrosis (ORN) as a side effect of radiation therapy for head and neck cancer.
Objectives:
- Learn safe radiation doses for treatment options like extractions, implants, and root banking.
- Explore contemporary treatment modalities for radiation therapy.
- Learn about the risks associated with medications that may cause osteonecrosis.
- Understand the distinctions between medication-related osteonecrosis (MRONJ) and ORN.
About the Speaker
Dr. Michael Kase
Dr. Kase, a graduate of Marquette University and the Maurice H. Kornberg School of Dentistry at Temple University, completed advanced training in prosthodontics and maxillofacial prosthetics at some of the nation's top institutions, including the Birmingham VA Prosthodontics Clinic, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He currently holds several appointments at UAB, where he specializes in incorporating digital technology into maxillofacial prosthodontics, including digital impression-making and 3D printing for facial prosthetics.
